annotator has no connection to your AI chat. You copy the text and the answer yourself, so you decide what you pass on.

How annotator protects your data

annotator needs your text only to detect personal data. The text is processed on a server in Switzerland and is not stored. The list below shows everything annotator stores.

German texts

Detection works best with German texts. For French and Italian texts the results are currently less reliable. annotator shows a notice when a text does not appear to be in German.

Frequently asked questions

Is the text anonymous after processing?
No. annotator pseudonymizes the text: personal data is replaced with placeholders and the content remains. Rare details can still allow conclusions about a person. Please check the text before you pass it on.
What if a name is not replaced?
Select the name in the text and click Replace with placeholder. annotator replaces it and inserts it again when you paste the answer.
Which AI chats can I use?
Any AI chat into which you can paste text, for example ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Microsoft Copilot.
Where is my work saved?
Only in the open browser tab. It is kept when you reload the page and deleted when you close the tab. We cannot restore it.
Do I need an account?
Yes. You sign in with your email address and a code that we send to you. You do not need a password.
Who is behind annotator?
VectorAgency GmbH, a Swiss company. VectorAgency also develops DOBY, a desktop app for the pseudonymization of documents in social work, healthcare and legal services.
